8 Connection Methods Commonly Used in Building Pipes

According to the application and the pipe, the common connection methods are: threaded connection, flange connection, welding, groove connection (clamp connection), ferrule connection, snap connection, hot melt connection, socket connection, etc.

1. Threaded Connection

Threaded connections are made by threaded pipe fittings. Galvanized steel pipes with a pipe diameter of less than or equal to 100 mm should be threaded and used for surface mounted pipes. Steel-plastic composite pipes are also generally threaded. Galvanized steel pipes shall be threaded. The surface of the galvanized layer damaged by the threaded fasteners and the exposed threaded parts shall be treated with anti-corrosion treatment; the flanges or ferrule-type special pipe fittings shall be used for connection, and the welded parts of galvanized steel pipes and flanges shall be secondary galvanizing.

2. Flange Connection

Larger diameter pipes are flanged. Flange connections are generally used in main road connection valves, check valves, water meters, water pumps, etc., as well as pipe sections that require frequent disassembly and overhaul. If the galvanized pipe is welded or flanged, the weld shall be galvanized or preserved.

3. Welding

Welding is suitable for non-galvanized steel pipes, mostly for concealed pipes and pipes with large diameters, and is used in high-rise buildings. Copper pipe connection can be used for special joints or welding. When the pipe diameter is less than 22mm, it should be welded by socket or casing. The socket should be installed in the direction of medium flow. When the pipe diameter is greater than or equal to 2mm, it should be welded. Stainless steel tubes can be socket welded.

4. Groove connection (clamp connection)

The grooved joint connection can be used for fire-fighting water, air-conditioning hot and cold water, water supply, rainwater, etc. The galvanized steel pipe with a diameter greater than or equal to 100mm has simple operation, does not affect the original characteristics of the pipeline, construction safety, and good system stability. It is easy to maintain, saves labor and time.

5. Ferrule Connection

Plastic composite pipes are generally crimped using a threaded ferrule. Put the fitting nut on the end of the pipe, then put the inner core of the fitting into the end, and use a wrench to tighten the fitting and the nut. The connection of the copper tube can also be crimped using a threaded ferrule.

6. Cartridge Connection

The stainless steel clamping type pipe fitting technology replaces the traditional water supply pipe connection technology such as threading, welding and bonding, and has the characteristics of protecting water quality, strong corrosion resistance and long service life. The joint pipe fittings with special sealing ring will be used during construction. It is connected with the pipeline and is pressed and sealed by a special tool to seal and fasten. It has the advantages of convenient installation, reliable connection and economical rationality during construction.

7. Hot Melt Connection

The connection method of the PPR tube is performed by a fuser for hot melt connection.

8. Socket Connection

This is a connection to water and drainage cast iron pipes and fittings. There are two types of flexible joints and rigid joints. The flexible joints are sealed with rubber rings. The rigid joints are sealed with asbestos cement or expanded packing.Lead seals can be used for important occasions.
